Residents Asked to Conserve Water, Turn off Sprinklers
Strong winds have damaged an electrical line that powers pumps that maintain a majority of the City of Twin Falls’ water supply. As crews work to restore power to the pumps, residents are being asked to conserve water and turn off their sprinklers.
At about 10 p.m. Monday, city public works officials were notified that three of the four pumps, which transfer water from the Blue Lakes to the city’s water system were not functioning. The Blue Lakes pump system does not have backup power.
Idaho Power is on the scene, trying to repair the power line. However, strong winds are making it difficult for crews to repair the power line. As of 11 p.m., Idaho Power did not know when power would be restored to the water pumps.
“We are asking residents to turn off their sprinkler systems and conserve water,” said city manager Travis Rothweiler."Right now there is not time frame as to when they expect to restore power."
The City of Twin Falls will notify residents through local media and on its website—www.tifd.org—when power is restored to the Blue Lakes pumps and the water system is functional again.
