City Street Maintenance
The City of Twin Falls uses various methods to maintain and extend the life of roadways. The City applies both chip seal and slurry seal each year during the summer months to extend the life of asphalt roads and minimize long-term costs. The City follows a Zone Maintenance schedule that consolidates maintenance projects, minimizing the impact on residents and commuters. Please View Map: Zone Maintenance (PDF)
Important Notice to Motorists
Please stay off uncured streets!
What We Do:
General Maintinance Work:
Much of what we do is cleaning debris from streets and right-of-way, repairing seasonal damage such as fissures, utility trenches and potholes. Ensuring clean streets with Street Sweepers and Street Vacuums helps with stormwater drainage - making for safer streets during storms. Repairing surface cracks and potholes prevents water from seeping under the roadway and causing further damage.
Chip Seal:
Residences and businesses will receive a door hanger 24 hrs. prior to any work being done on their street. When you receive a door hanger, the work will occur on the following day. Please move your vehicles off of the street for that day. If vehicles are not moved off the street, they will be towed. In the event that a vehicle is towed, it will be towed to an adjacent street out of the work area.
After the chip seal is placed, the excess chips will be swept. Normally this occurs 2 to 3 days after the placement of the chip seal. The residences and businesses will receive a door hanger 24 hrs. prior to any sweeping taking place. Sweeping takes place during night time hours. Please move your vehicles off of the street for the sweepers.
Fog Seal:
Fog seal is the application of a thin layer of emulsified asphalt to the existing surface, which seals narrow cracks, restores pavement flexibility, and most importantly restores the underlying pavement structure. Fog seal is generally applied to newer streets that do not require more significant methods such as Chip, Slurry, and Friction Seal. Fog seal is typically sprayed onto the roadway.
Full-depth Replacement:
Exactly how it sounds, we remove the entire roadway under extreme deterioration.
