The Twin Falls Police Department would like to take a moment and wish our community a Merry Christmas Season and provide some useful tips to brighten your Holiday season. Generally, the Twin Falls Police Department does see an increase in reported thefts and burglaries during the few months leading up to Christmas. With that in mind, the Twin Falls Police Department would like to encourage our community to be proactive in crime prevention efforts. You can reduce the likelihood of victimization by taking the following steps.
- Always lock your doors. This includes locking vehicles, trailers, homes, and any other structure that might contain valuables.
- Do not leave valuables, particularly firearms, in plain view or inside vehicles overnight. Again, always lock your doors and vehicles.
- Be sure to park vehicles or trailers overnight in areas that have good lighting.
- Record serial numbers of electronics, tools, and firearms and save them in a safe area.
- Ask mail delivery services not to leave packages on your door step if you will not be home during the anticipated delivery time. Request the delivery service keep your package at their office and pick the package up or ask a neighbor to assist you by taking the package inside until you return home.
- Be vigilant. Watch for vehicles and people who do not belong in your neighborhood. Try to write down license plate numbers.
- Don’t be afraid to call the police if something or someone looks suspicious to you.
Police Chief Craig Kingsbury said, “The holidays can be a joyous time, but they also are a time that thieves look for easy opportunities. Please take responsibility and lock up your valuables, both at home and in your vehicle. Don’t let the Grinch ruin your joy.”
