Pet Etiquette: City Parks and our Pets
Recently we have received complaints of dogs acting aggressively towards children in our various City parks. Our police officers and animal control officers will be monitoring this in attempts to keep these places fun and safe for our families. As a dog owner, we would ask that proper dog etiquette be utilized in our City parks and trail system. Here are some simple tips to ensure good behavior and etiquette from our pets:
- Always leash your dog.
- Prevent barking.
- Be aware of other peoples’ space.
- Be aware of other peoples’ feelings.
- Scoop your poop!
As we enjoy this beautiful Idaho spring weather with our family pets, a reminder that any dog which is not confined within a fenced or completely enclosed area or within a city park are to be "on a leash and/or carried while leashed by such person owning or having the care" with the exception of permanent "dog parks".
The Magic Valley Canine Social Club and the City of Twin Falls joined together to open the first dedicated community dog park in 2014. Baxter’s Park is located at the northeast corner of Blake Street North and Shoup Avenue West, attracting hundreds of dog owners and their four-legged friends to enjoy a little healthy exercise together.
No dogs or other domestic animal shall be permitted at Dierkes Lake except for water dog training, in specific areas signed for that purpose.
Any person who let their dogs run off-leash in Twin Falls could face a fine of $151.50.
With a little help from each of our pet owners, we can all enjoy a fun and healthy community together.
