[ARCHIVED] 1st Degree Arson

On Tuesday January 4, 2017, at approximately 10:08 PM Twin Falls Police Officers responded to 1463 Mountain View Drive reference to a disturbance. Officers received information that an adult male, identified as Lamont J. Dewitt (born in 1961) of Twin Falls, was at that location yelling threats towards “Charlie Monson” and then threw something at the home that caused a fire. After causing the fire, Dewitt left the area. Residents had extinguished the fire prior to police arrival and no injuries were reported. Officers were able to locate Dewitt driving southbound in the 1000 block of Blue Lakes Blvd. North and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with Dewitt. Dewitt refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit through Twin Falls. Twin Falls Police Officers successfully deployed stop sticks in the area of Eastland Drive North and Falls Avenue, causing Dewitt to stop his vehicle in the parking lot of the LDS Temple on Eastland Drive North. Dewitt was taken into custody at that time. Officers located several incendiary devices, bottles containing flammable liquid, in Dewitt’s vehicle. Dewitt was charged with 1st Degree Arson and Felony Eluding a Police Officer.
