[ARCHIVED] Homicide/Suicide

On Saturday November 12, 2016, at approximately 12:09 a.m. officers were dispatched to 274 Teton Street regarding an intoxicated man with a gun.  The initial report indicated the man fired a round into the ground and began pointing the weapon at other people in the area.  The suspect left that location before officers arrived on scene.    However, as officers arrived in the area, they heard a woman begin to scream from the area of Juniper and Shoup Avenue.  As Officers approached the woman, they heard several shots fired from the area of 161 Juniper.  As officers began setting up a perimeter, the woman advised her children were still inside the home at 161 Juniper.  Officers devised a plan to break out a basement window next the room where one of the children was sleeping in an effort to evacuate the children.  As officers entered the basement bedroom, they were able to see up a short stairway and witnessed the suspect take his own life.  Officers discovered that before the suspect took his own life, he shot and killed another man who was living at 161 Juniper.  Lieutenant Terry Thueson said, "We have information that indicates the victim and suspect knew each other.  At this time there are no suspects at large and no threat to public safety." As this is currently an active investigation, the Twin Falls Police Department will not releasing the names of the victim and suspect, or the names of the woman and her children at this time.
