The Twin Falls Police Department and Neuhoff Communications will provide an opportunity for citizens of Twin Falls to safely dispose of old prescription medications from 10 a.m. to noon on Sept. 26 at KMVT/Fox 14 studios located at 1100 Blue Lakes Blvd. North in Twin Falls.

Officers will accept unused, unwanted or expired prescriptions drugs on the north side of the studio building.

The event is part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Take Back Day. According to the DEA, more than 7 million U.S. citizens currently abuse prescription drugs, including about 2,500 teens each day who abuse them for the first time. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends.

The Twin Falls Police Department has collected more than 100 pounds of prescriptions drugs at similar events in prior years.

Officers asked that citizens not dispose of medical waste, needles or illegal drugs at the drug drop.
