Twin Falls Police responded to a report of two dogs who attacked a pedestrian at approximately 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29 in the area of Wendell Street and Robbins Avenue in northwest Twin Falls. According to witnesses, the two dogs – one described as being a black and white pit bull terrier, and the other a brown and white pit bull terrier – became aggressive with pedestrians in the area. Witnesses said the dogs then attacked a female who fell to the ground as the dogs continued to attack.
The female suffered multiple bite wounds and was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital. Twin Falls Police Department’s Animal Control unit and several officers responded to the scene and were able to contain one of the dogs. The dog is being held at the Twin Falls Animal Shelter. Officers and animal control were unable to contain the second dog, which was described as being brown and white in color. As of 4 p.m. Thursday, officers are still unable to locate the dog.
Police contacted nearby schools to inform them about the incident and the dog at-large. Police also patrolled the area as school was released. Anyone who sees a dog matching the description is encouraged to call the Twin Falls Police Department at 208-735-4357. Please do not try to contain the dog.
Unfortunately, the incident could have been prevented. City of Twin Falls requires all dogs to be kept on a leash when not contained in a home or fenced area. The owner of any dog found running at-large can be charged with a misdemeanor and the dog can be impounded, according to City code.
