[ARCHIVED] City To Close Main Avenue For St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Twin Falls Police Department would like to remind citizens that it will be temporarily closing Main Avenue in Historic Downtown Twin Falls for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The parade will begin at 12 p.m. March 17 at the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Avenue East and will proceed northwest on Main Avenue, ending at the intersection of Main Avenue North and Dierkes Street North. The parade route will close Main Avenue and many of its cross streets from 11 to 1:30 p.m.

The Twin Falls Police Department is encouraging citizens to be aware of safety hazards associated with large moving vehicles and persons along roadways. Parents are asked to watch their children and prevent them from running onto roadways to collect candy or objects that may be tossed, dropped or lost from vehicles.

All participants in the parade are prohibited from throwing candy or any objects from the floats due to safety concerns. Participants who throw candy or other objects from the floats will be asked to leave the parade.

To prevent parking congestion, those attending the parade are encouraged to park vehicles two to four blocks from the parade route. Please do not block the driveway to any home or business. Citizens who require special assistance accessing the downtown area for the parade should contact a police officer or a volunteer stationed at intersections along Main Avenue.

The 100 block of Main Avenue North will remain closed after the parade until midnight due to scheduled Saint Patrick’s Day events.
