[ARCHIVED] Twin Falls Police Department Raises Funds for Prostate Cancer Research

The Twin Falls Police Department is raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer research, and they are inviting the public to join them.

As part of No-shave November, Twin Falls police officers will be growing beards – you read that correctly, we are letting them grow it out – in exchange for a $25 donation to the Twin Falls Police Department No-shave November Fund. All proceeds will go to the St. Luke’s Mountain State Tumor Institute for prostate cancer research and outreach prevention. All donations may be made at any First Federal Savings Bank branch location.

The Twin Falls Police Department does not typically allow officers to grow beards, as officers are required to abide by strict uniform requirements. However, both the City of Twin Falls and the Twin Falls Police Department recognize that prostate cancer has effected many peoples’ lives – including those of our officers and staff – and so we hope to provide support when we can.

No-shave November, or Noshember, started in Australia as a way to raise money for cancer research by growing out mustaches. Public and private organizations would start teams where men made a dedication to grow out a mustache for the entire month of November. When the event came over to the U.S. it evolved and men began to grow beards. In 2011, there were more than 850,000 participants from around the world. Last year, more than $126 million was raised for prostate cancer awareness and research.

If you like to donate to the prostate cancer awareness fund, please contact a local First Federal Savings Bank branch and say you want to donate to the “TFPD No Shave November Fund.”
