The Twin Falls Police Department closed Hansen Street from Main Avenue East to Second Avenue East for approximately two hours to investigate a suspicious package that had been left on a sidewalk.
At about 1:30 p.m., emergency dispatch received a call from a business owner about a black brief case that had been left by a lamp post near a vacant building. Twin Falls police dispatched the bomb squad to investigate the package from a safe distance.
During that time, a one-block section of Hansen Street was closed to traffic while the bomb squad used a remote-controlled robot to inspect the brief case. The bomb squad was able to determine that the brief case was not dangerous and only contained papers and books.
The Twin Falls Police Department treats any suspicious package with caution and sometimes determines it necessary to use the bomb squad’s technology and training to ensure the safety of citizens and officers.
The Twin Falls Police Department Bomb Squad is one of four accredited units in the state of Idaho and provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies in Magic Valley and Wood River Valley.
