The City of Twin Falls would like to remind drivers to slow down, provide extra distance between vehicles and stops, and - if possible - avoid driving at night. Snow followed by a freezing-thawing cycle over the weekend has led to stubborn ice on roadways.
The City of Twin Falls Streets Department will continue to plow, brine and sand roadways to prevent and reduce ice accumulation; however, the combination of heavy snowfall followed by warming temperatures and then sustained freezing temperatures have led to ice accumulation on streets - particularly in shaded areas and at night.
City street crews are applying sand at intersection to provide traction, however, the sand should be combined with reduced driving speeds. Posted speed limits are for ideal driving conditions. Also, drivers should significantly increase the distance between vehicles, as well as stopping distance.
With temperatures expected to remain below freezing through Thursday, drivers should expect patchy ice on roadways.
