The City of Twin Falls will perform seasonal street maintenance beginning Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 26. The street maintenance will take place mostly on residential streets in south Twin Falls in Maintenance Zone 2 and will cause some temporary street closures and detours. The maintenance work is necessary to maintain the life and drivability of city streets.
As part of the maintenance, the City will fog seal more than 227,000 square yards of streets in south Twin Falls. A list of streets scheduled for fog seal can be viewed here.
Roadwork will take place from 7:30 a.m. to about 6 p.m. and residents whose streets will be affected will receive a door hanger on their residence 24 hours prior to roadwork. Vehicles cannot drive or park on newly sealed roadways for up to 8 hours, or until the sealant has time to cure. Citizens should avoid areas of work and residents cannot park vehicles on the streets during fog seal.
Fog seal is the application of a thin layer of emulsified asphalt to the street surface, which seals narrow cracks, restores pavement flexibility, and most importantly protects and restores the underlying pavement structure. Fog seal is generally applied to newer streets that do not require more significant surface treatment.
The City utilizes a zoned maintenance plan that conducts infrastructure maintenance, replacement, and upgrade work in one of eight zones in the city. Each zone of the city is maintained every eight years. A map of the City’s maintenance zones is available on the City website here.
