[ARCHIVED] Twin Falls Canal Company Reduces Water Delivery to City Pressurized Irrigation

Due to severe drought conditions, the Twin Falls Canal Company will further curtail water by reducing delivery to City Pressurized Irrigation Stations to ½” beginning August 1. Curtailments reduce the amount of water delivered to pressurized irrigation stations in order to reduce demand on water storage.

Residents connected to PI are encouraged to set water schedules at non-peak hours. When too many homeowners irrigate at the same time — typically during mornings and evenings — the station serving the subdivision will shut down to prevent burnout. When this occurs, customers will receive little or no water to their sprinklers systems. Residents should schedule watering times over a 24-hour period to avoid overwhelming and shutting down pressurized irrigation stations.

The city’s pressurized irrigation system reduces demand on the aquifer’s limited water supply by utilizing canal water for non-potable purposes — on average it has reduced Twin Falls’ demand on the aquifer by nearly 5 million gallons per day. Residents can check the status of their subdivision’s pressurized irrigation at TFID.ORG and selecting 'Subdivision Pressurized Irrigation Status'.
