Contractors with the City of Twin Falls will begin seasonal road surface maintenance Monday, July 11 through Friday, August 12. The zoned maintenance work will create delays, detours, and brief closures but is necessary to maintain the life and drivability of roadways.
The contractor, Emery, Inc. will chip seal several streets in south Twin Falls and the Canyon Springs Grade totaling about 533,000 square yards of roadway to be chip sealed this summer. Roadwork will take place from 7:30 a.m. to about 6 p.m. — due significant grinding noise, this work cannot be done at night. Residents whose streets will be affected will receive a door hanger on their residence 24 hours prior to roadwork. Vehicles cannot drive or park on newly resurfaced roadways for up to 8 hours after completion to allow time to cure. Citizens should avoid areas of work and use alternate routes during chip seal placement.
Chip Sealing is one of several cost-efficient tools the City uses to maintain and extend the life of its roadways, the process of Chip Sealing presses a thin layer of asphalt oil and rock into the roadway, which seals it from the elements and adds a new layer to the roadway. Vehicles should reduce speed and give extra distance from the vehicle in front to avoid rock damage.
The City utilizes a zoned maintenance plan that conducts infrastructure maintenance, replacement, and upgrade work in one of eight zones in the city. Each zone of the city is maintained every eight years.
