[ARCHIVED] City to Conduct Controlled Burn of Sediment Ponds April 6

Controlled Burn

The City of Twin Falls will conduct controlled burns of sediment settling ponds near Meadow Ridge Circle and the Canyon Rim Trail in northeast Twin Falls beginning Wednesday, April 6 — weather permitting.

During the controlled burn, residents may see smoke coming from northeast Twin Falls between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 6. The Twin Falls Fire Department has been made aware of the controlled burn and will ensure the fire remains within its confined area.

The controlled burns are conducted annually by the City of Twin Falls to control vegetation growth that can overwhelm wetlands and sediment settling ponds. Sediment ponds allow sediment and organic material to separate from the water before it is released into the river. The process helps to significantly reduce the City of Twin Falls’ impact on the Snake River ecosystem.

Questions about the controlled burns may be directed to Josh Baird, Twin Falls City Engineer, at 208-735-7273
