The Twin Falls Police Department is joining more than 50 other law enforcement agencies in Idaho, as well as the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety, to stop aggressive drivers.
Beginning July 23 through August 8, officers will be on the lookout for aggressive drivers to help keep Idaho roads safe. Aggressive driving contributes to half of all vehicle crashes in Idaho. According to preliminary data, aggressive driving was a factor in 78 fatal crashes in the Idaho during 2020.
“Put simply, aggressive driving crashes can be prevented,” said Officer Chris Ehardt, Twin Falls Police Department. “We all can help prevent crashes by slowing down and having a little more patience behind the wheel.”
Aggressive driving happens when a driver operates a vehicle in a way that endangers other people or property on the roads. It’s a series of behaviors that includes speeding, following another driver too closely, weaving in and out of traffic, running red lights, make improper lane changes abruptly, and ignoring other traffic signs.
With more travelers forecasted to be driving this summer and the continuing population growth in the City of Twin Falls, it is more important to exercise caution and patience on the roadways that we all share together.
Never Do the Following While Driving:
- Ignore traffic signals
- Speed and tailgate
- Drive too fast for condition
- Weave in and out of traffic
- Make improper lane changes frequently and abruptly
- Pass on the shoulder
- Make rude hand and facial gestures
- Scream, honk, or flash lights in frustration
