[ARCHIVED] Rock Creek Trail Closed at Shoshone Street Bridge Due to Water Damage

Trail Closure

The City of Twin Falls has closed the Rock Creek Trail near the Shoshone Street bridge at Maxwell Avenue because water damage from a line break has caused significant erosion to the canyon wall above the trail. Pedestrians and cyclists should avoid the area due to the risk of falling rock and soil erosion.

When a waterline ruptured on Sunday, Feb. 14, city water flowed over the wall of the Rock Creek Canyon and around the bridge. The water flowing over the canyon wall eroded the soil and exposed loose rock above the Rock Creek Trail. While there is some erosion near the bridge, initial inspections have not shown any signs of structural damage to the bridge.

The section of trail is expected to remain closed for at least one month until crews can make the appropriate repairs to the canyon wall. The City is working to build a detour around the area of concern, but pedestrians and cyclists should avoid the area until further notice. The rest of the Rock Creek Trail will remain open and is unaffected by the waterline break.
