[ARCHIVED] Police Standoff One Male In Custody

FilerJackson

On January 28, 2021, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Twin Falls Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Filer Avenue, for a man with a firearm threatening harm to individuals at the scene.  Shortly after police arrived, they learned that the suspect, Ruperto Antonio Cuevas, 32, of Twin Falls, left the area and was driving a cream-colored Cadillac Escalade.   Officers initiated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop Mr. Cuevas, however, he fled from police and a pursuit ensued.

Officers continued to pursue Mr. Cuevas and he eventually returned to the 400 block of Filer Avenue, abandoned the vehicle, and took off running northbound in the 500 block of Jackson Street with a gun in his hand.  During the standoff with Mr. Cuevas, he fired a round from the gun he had in his possession; thankfully, nobody was injured.

Twin Falls Police, with assistance from Twin Falls County Sheriff and Idaho State Police, arrested Mr. Cuevas for Aggravated Assault and he was booked into the Twin Falls County Detention Facility.  As the investigation continues, additional charges may be filed.   Mr. Cuevas is, of course, presumed innocent of all charges until he has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Any further media inquiries should be directed to the Twin Falls County Prosecutor’s Office.
