Signs posted in the public right-of-way create potential safety hazards for pedestrians and vehicle traffic, so the City of Twin Falls is reminding citizens to please post temporary signs at appropriate locations that do not interfere with public safety.
Temporary signs that do not require the issuance of a permit, such as those for garage sales, lost pets, and political campaigns, should conform with City Code 10-9. City Code states that temporary signs are prohibited from being placed on any trees, utility poles, fencing, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streets and other right-of-way.
Temporary signs must be placed on private property, with the property owner’s permission, and more than 10 feet from the edge of the street pavement. Signs within 10 feet of the road can obstruct views and pedestrian access.
Signs in the public right-of-way will be removed and impounded. Sign owners are required to pay a $25 impound fee to have their signs returned.
