Pedestrians and cyclists are reminded that the Canyon Springs Grade is unsafe for walking and cycling due to construction on the second phase of the Canyon Springs Grade Project.
During the second phase of construction, the grade will again be reduced to one shared-lane. Signs have been posted at the top and bottom of the grade to informing pedestrians and cyclists that the grade is prohibited. Flaggers will direct alternating traffic on the shared lane.
The first phase of the Canyon Springs Grade Project was completed in October 2019, which primarily worked on scaling the rock wall and adding mesh containment barricades.
During the second phase, contractors will replace and repair the asphalt surface that was damaged during construction of the Waste Water Treatment Plant and first phase of the Canyon Springs Grade Project. Contractors will also reconstruct the roadway from the top of the grade to just past the second hairpin to add curb, gutter and a borrow ditch to facility better drainage. The second phase is expected to be completed in mid-June depending on weather.
Pedestrians and cyclists are reminded that failing to obey a traffic control sign or device is subject to fine, under Idaho Code 49-701. In addition, they are putting themselves and others at risk of injury.
The $1.7 million Canyon Springs Grade reconstruction project is the result of nearly three years of public input and planning, as well as stakeholder interviews to make the Canyon Springs Grade safe for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.
