[ARCHIVED] City Suspends Some Recreation Programs; Public Still Encouraged to Stay Active

Twin Falls City Pool

The City of Twin Falls Parks & Recreation Department is suspending some indoor recreation programs and adding restrictions to outdoor recreation programs in an effort to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Adult basketball, youth wrestling, and Shotokan karate have been suspended, and will be re-evaluated on March 30 to determine when those programs will resume. Schools facilities have been closed until further notice, so basketball and wrestling events will be suspended until the facilities reopen. The Harmon Park Recreation Building is also closed until further notice.

Out of an abundance of caution, the city will also close Twin Falls City Pool by the end-of-day Monday, March 16. Staff will clean and disinfect the locker rooms and pool area, and council will re-evaluate on March 30 reopening the pool to the public.

Outdoor recreation events, including soccer and flag football, will continue practices and games. Games are scheduled to start on April 4. Coaches information will be available the week of March 23, with practices starting the week of March 30. The spring season of Sporties for Shorties soccer will also start on April 4. But the public is reminded that anyone who is sick should stay home, and coaches are being encouraged to send home participants with cold- or flu-like symptoms.

Refunds are available for parents and participants who do not feel comfortable participating in recreation events. However, it’s strongly encouraged that healthy adults and youth remain active, and – if possible – distance yourself from others by being active outside.
