[ARCHIVED] Festival of Lights Parade and Tree Lighting Kicks-off Holiday Season on Dec. 6

Festival of Lights

The annual Festival of Lights Parade and Tree Lighting will kick off the Holiday Season at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 on Main Avenue in Downtown Twin Falls. The theme this year is ‘A Christmas Story,’ which brings the nostalgia of being a youngster again during Christmas.

The Festival of Lights Parade will start at Main Avenue and Dierkes Street, where the parade floats will stage before the event. The parade will then proceed on Main Avenue to Idaho Street, where Santa and the Twin Falls Mayor will countdown the lighting of the City Christmas Tree in the Downtown Commons.

The City Skate Rink, provided by the Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency, will also be open for the season, and will offer free skate rentals during the Festival of Lights. 

Live performances will include the College of Southern Idaho Madrigals, which will sing holiday music at the Downtown Commons. New this year mid-parade at Main Avenue and Shoshone Street, will be a live performance from the musical version of “A Christmas Story” which will be performed during the holiday season at the Orpheum Theater.

Music and entry announcing will be provided by Iliad Media Group at the parade judging booth located at Main Avenue and Shoshone Street. Music will also be provided by Music Monkey at the Downtown Commons and Skate Rink.

After the parade and tree lighting, the public is invited to enjoy the local shops in Downtown Twin Falls, and window shop like it’s Christmas in 1940s again.

Visitors are encouraged to park in the city parking lots on Second Avenue East and Second Avenue West. Parking is also available in designated areas along Second Avenue. During the parade, Main Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic and parking. The following cross streets will also be closed:

  • Dierkes Street
  • Eden Street
  • Fairfield Street
  • Gooding Street
  • Shoshone Street
  • Hansen Street
  • Idaho Street 

Festival of Lights Schedule of Events:

1 p.m. – Parking discouraged on Main Avenue

3 – Main Avenue is closed to all vehicle traffic and parking

5:30 – Parade starts at Main Avenue and Dierkes Street

5:45 – Live performance of A Christmas Story at Main Avenue and Shoshone Street

6:00 – Live music by the College of Southern Idaho Madrigals at the Downtown Commons

6:30 – Parade ends at the Downtown Commons

6:45 – Santa and the Twin Falls Mayor countdown the tree lighting
