It is the policy of the Twin Falls Police Department to promptly make available to the media certain reports of newsworthy activities and information which are not detrimental to the location, apprehension or interrogation of a criminal suspect and which are not personally damaging to the victim of the criminal act or of a personally sensitive nature. We believe that cooperation with all accredited representatives of the media is important in promoting good public relations. It is our philosophy that a cooperative attitude and a courteous explanation, when necessary, will result in a more desirable presentation of the facts.

The responsibility for furnishing information upon request to members of the media concerning routine departmental investigations and incidents is vested in the divisional commanders, their sergeants and/or the Department Press Information Officer (PIO). The current PIO for our Department is Lieutenant Craig Stotts.

PUBLIC RECORDS LAW

The Public Records Law at Idaho Code Sections 9-335 through 9-348 basically provides that all investigative records, including tapes, etc. maintained by the Twin Falls Police Department are public records and must be released, unless exempt under Idaho Code Section 9-335. All requests for public records must be made on the proper form through our Records Bureau. The Chief of Police, after consultation with the City Attorney or Records Bureau Supervisor, has the final authority on whether documents are to be released or not.
