Reduced Speed Limit, New Traffic Controls In Effect Near South Hills Middle School

Motorists should be aware of the new speed limit, school zone, and crosswalk near the recently completed South Hills Middle School located at 1550 Harrison Street South and 3600 North. The City of Twin Falls will be installing the new traffic controls through Wednesday, Aug. 16 to help increase safety and awareness of students, school staff, and other pedestrians when the new middle school opens.

The Twin Falls City Council on Monday, Aug. 7 approved a reduced speed limit from 50 mph to 35 mph on 3600 North between Washington Street South and Blue Lakes Boulevard South. The city has posted the new signs with the reduced speed limit and is also installing a pedestrian crossing west of the middle school entrance on 3600 North.

Temporary school zone signs are also being installed this week and will be in effect when classes start at the new middle school school on Thursday, Aug. 17. The signs will be replaced with variable speed signs later this month that will also display a driver’s speed and indicate when the motorist should slow down.

The city is also installing no parking signs on the east side of Harrison Street South. Drivers should not park — or drop off students — on the east side of Harrison Street South to prevent students from crossing the street during peak traffic.
